Project Kasovu

Project Kasovu is a resettlement project for the families in this community who have been squatting on land living on very little.  They are the poorest of the poor. We have been visiting this community for some time and the conditions continue to get worse. Through this resettlement project, we will be moving the family groups to the Land of Living Hope Project.  They will be built a proper home that they will help to learn to construct, taught how to farm the land to grow crops for our Seeds of Hope Children and for themselves, taught vocational training skills, and receive discipleship training.  In July 2017, every member for the first time in this community, accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior. We spoke to them about becoming new creations and the hope that is found in Jesus Christ.  We are praying that the sense of hopelessness will dissipate in the coming months as they see God moving in their lives.

What is project kasovu?

Phase 1:

Temporary Tarps to cover the homes to protect them from the rainy season.

We were able to raise $1500 to provide tarps for 30 different homes both in the Kasovu and Mukungu communities.  Members of our local churches in Uganda are helping to do minor repairs on the homes since the rains have started.

phase 2:

treatment of jiggers.

In July when we went to visit the families in Kasovu we discovered that they were severely invested with jiggers.  Jiggers are a sand flea or the chigoe flea that burrows into the feet.  They are parasites and feed off of the host.  They multiply quickly.  Without proper treatment, a person can die.  Everyone in this community is invested, including the babies.  We are trying to connect with Sole Hope to receive training so we can run our own clinic.  Please be in prayer as we are trying to figure out the quickest solution for treatment.

phase 3

adopt a family, build a home

Phase 3 is where we need people to rise up!  We have been speaking both to the community and to several different contractors to come up with the best living options for our people in Kasovu.  The least expensive route for us to go is to build duplex units that will house two families per unit.

Each duplex will house two families.

Each duplex will house two families.

For the first time, families will live in a house that is safe and will protect them from the elements.

Each unit will have two bedrooms and a sitting area.  The Batwa are use to cooking outdoors so we will build outdoor kitchens that will be shared with the community.

The cost per duplex is $12,890.  To adopt a family the cost of each unit is $6445.  If we have teams to come over to help build, we can actually build the homes for less and also work along side these families.
